Special Projects / Achiedvements / Innovations:
Wethersfield's Probationary Officer has completed approximately eighteen weeks of training at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden. It is expected that he will graduate from the Academy in August 2006.
Monthly Activities:
Patrol Division:
During the month of June the Patrol Division was involved in nine (9) narcotics cases in Wethersfield, which resulted in twelve (12) arrests.
Total Seizures for the Patrol Division are as follows: -
Marijuana: 33.2 grams
- Heroin: 3.5 grams
- Controlled Substances: 6 Alprazolam, 1 Clonazepam
- Crack Cocaine: 3.1 grams
Detective Division:
This month members of the Detective Bureau initiated or were assigned follow up to thirty-nine (39) new cases. Members of the Detective Bureau investigated- five (5) commercial burglaries,
- two (2) robberies,
- one (1) sexual assault,
- six (6) wanted persons,
- four (4) disorderly conducts,
- five (5) fraud cases,
- four (4) larcenies,
- two (2) death investigations,
- five (5) background investigations,
- two (2) vandalisms,
- one (1) assist for other jurisdiction,
- one (1) motor vehicle violations and
- one (1) juvenile offense.
Detective Division
Cases of Interest:
On June 6th at 3:09 AM officers were dispatched to a business at 58-A Maple Street on a report of a burglar alarm. The officers checking the business located a broken lower window on the garage door and heard movement inside the business. One officer saw the main entrance door swing open and a black male about 20-30 years old, approximately 6' 2" tall run from the main entrance and around the south side of the building. The officer chased the suspect male in a southerly direction behind the business and then in a westerly direction behind 936 Silas Deane Highway. The officers were not able to locate the suspect that night, however the suspect has since been identified and an arrest warrant is pending that will charge him with Burglary 2nd Degree, Criminal Attempt at Larceny 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree.
On June 3rd at 12:00 PM officers were dispatched to the corner of Jordan Lane and Ridge Crest Circle on a report of a robbery. The caller stated that he had just been robbed by a black male about 25 years old with short dark hair. The victim told the officer that the robber ran north across Jordan Lane and went into Goodwin Park. The victim said he surrendered a small amount of money to the robber. An off-duty Wethersfield Police Lieutenant reported that he located and detained the black male suspect standing in the parking lot of the Goodwin Park Golf Course. The suspect admitted to the officers that he committed the robbery. The suspect was arrested for Robbery 3rd Degree and Larceny 6th Degree. The victim was not injured during this robbery.
School Resource Officer (SRO) Report:
The SRO handled eight (8) incidents in the month of June, which generated 2 incident reports. The most notable incident involved the theft of a computer monitor from the school, which was perpetrated by a student who was receiving remedial classroom work. This arrest involved the use of the school's video surveillance system, and an arrest by warrant is pending. In addition to handling on campus events, the SRO attended the Senior Ball at the Aquaturf in Southington, as well as graduation at the Cove.
Juvenile Unit:
Nothing to report this month.
Support Services Bureau (SSB):
There were 100 alarms received during the month of June. Of that total, none were found to be actual alarms. Twenty-five (25) tickets were issued this month for violation of the false alarm ordinance.
During the month of June the Communications Unit received and handled approximately 760 E-911 emergency phone calls. The Communications Unit dispatched the Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance and Aetna Ambulance to a total of 255 medical emergencies.
During June twenty-nine (29) persons were arrested and held requiring 430 hours of incarceration. Of the persons held, twenty-three (23) were arrested by warrant. During June SSB personnel transported twenty-nine (29) prisoners to court, twenty-one (21) males and eight (8) females. The five (5) females incarcerated by the department required 139 hours of matron coverage.

Performance Measures:
During the first six months of 2006 this department has responded to a total of 525 alarms. This represents an increase of approximately 4% from the same period last year. To date 76 tickets have been issued for violation of the false alarm ordinance, which equates to a total of $6,300 in fines. During the same period last year 78 tickets were issued, equating to $3,900 in fines.
