The Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center will host a public information session on the Metropolitan District Commission’s [MDC] Clean Water Project on Thursday, October 19, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. A representative of the MDC will discuss the health of the region’s waterways and the state of the local sewage treatment system, as well as answer questions about the Clean Water Project.

Though much cleaner than a generation ago, the portion of the Connecticut River in the greater Hartford region still is impacted by untreated sewage during storms more than fifty times each year. The Clean Water Project aims to improve the region’s sewer system, and a referendum on funding the project will be held November 7, 2006. The project is managed by the MDC, a nonprofit municipal agency that provides water and sewer services to eight Hartford area communities including Newington, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield.  <Top>
