Francis-Stillman School, autumn, 2001

On a rainy, Thursday afternoon, August 29, 2002 (coinciding with the first day of the 2002-03 school year) the Town of Wethersfield sponsored a tour of the unused Francis - Stillman School building at the corner of Hartford Avenue and Francis Streets in Old Wethersfield (at the southeast corner of Standish Park, near Hanmer School). The tour arranged cooperatively by the Physical Services Department of the Town (and its Director, Joe Hart) and the Wethersfield Taxpayers Association (headed by Rocco Orsini).

Nearly 20 men showed up. John Cascio of the Town Council was present on the tour.

1. Chained and padlocked, the Francis - Stillman School building has been relatively free of interior vandalism. It stands ready for a rebirth.

2. In the basement (SE corner), Physical Services Director Joe Hart (lt) offers commentary and answers to the "tourists."

3. Removed but not discarded, copper leaders and gutters await recycling in the same room.

4. Town Counciler John Cascio (third from left) with perhaps one third of those touring the building.
