~ ~ ~ America will never be the same. Hopefully for the better and not for the worse. Our eyes have been seared by the flames of 9/11/2001. Our hearts have torn by the terror of 9/11. Our united body has been scarred with the shrapnel of 9/11. But, we are Americans. We will survive. We will heal. We will overcome. We will thrive. We will learn and we will lead. The children who witnessed and survived 9/11 will carry into the future our hopes, fears, dreams and determination to be "one nation" from many peoples: united. The Keane Foundation was named after and is dedicated to that healing process which Wethersfield resident Richard M. Keane would have endorsed. In its goal to heal and grow our community, state and nation, the Keane Foundation plans to create a sports and learning center for all generations. To that difficult and distant goal, it has steeled itself to nurture the community as it raises the necessary funds to erect and perpetuate that living institution. "One Nation - through the eyes of Wethersfield's Children," a 2003 Calendar, was conceived as a healing step in that direction. Starting on or about December 1, 2002, the calendars will be on sale at many local businesses. It is sure to become a collector's item. Their sale is expected to be brisk with a limited number available by the time the offering closes early next year. Judy Keane and members of the Keane Foundation participated in the 11/15/2002 airing of Wethersfield LIVE, a production of Wethersfield Community Television via C ox Cable Channel 14 in central Connecticut. Hosted by Rick Garrey and Mary Beth Maluccio, Wethersfield LIVE, provided the venue for the promotion for the One Nation calendar. In the audience but given on-air credit for his seminal thoughts and encouragement was Nick D'Eramo, owner of Triple Stitch Sportswear, who has generously supported the goals and efforts of both Mikey's Place and now the Keane Foundation. On hand and on stage were also Bob Lee and Tina Lynch of Studio 10 Design which took the ideas and art work of the children and brilliantly and laboriously produced the design and production graphics needed for the printing of the calendar. Judy was accompanied by one of her sisters, Mrs. Barbara Curran. The student artists chosen to have their art featured in the calendar surrounded the adults on stage. The reception area (tiny) in the Olsen House (site of the WCTV studios) was packed. The production area (tinier) of the studio was filled with the overflow of parents and friends. The parking lot and most of the adjacent lawn was filled with cars and SUVs. THIS is community!   ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ CLICK on each small image to enlarge it, then use [BACK] button or arrow to return here. Thirteen students provided the chosen art work for the 12 months and the cover. A poem, "Gray", by another student provided the 9/11 thematic anchor for the calendar. All who submitted art work to the judges were also given credit within the calendar for their efforts and participation.

The "audience" was comprised of parents and friends who not only filled the reception area but also spilled over (with permission) into the studio. Second from the right is Rick D'Eramo of Triple Stitch Sportswear who conceived the calendar project helped to shepherd it to completion.
