If you had not visited us to see how Mikey's Place was put together and if you had not been there yourself, you might not appreciate some of the details which help to make Mikey's Place special and safe. The huge mountain of wood chips has disappeared from along side the playscape; the chips now form a twelve inch thick resilient cushion around most of the equipment. Under the swings is an incredibly soft yet durable floor of rubberized pavement, a sheer pleasure to walk on and very safe to land on.

Wonderful wooden and cast iron benches dot the playscape, allowing parents and grandparents a place to light while they keep an eye on their energetic children and grandchildren. Some of these benches have been designated as memorial benches for those who have made generous donations to support the creation of Mikey's Place.

Hazard fencing still demarcates the northern edge of Mikey's Place in early spring. The wood chip mulch - cushion is in place, as is the rubberized mats under some of the equipment. The gravel and stone dust has been laid for the soon to come blacktop paths. The topsoil is read to accept seeding. Flowers and shrubs are yet to come. The gazebo is in the distance....

Moving in a little closer, you can see the stone dust which delineates the black-top paths to come. The bright white, cedar shingled gazebo beckons legs and feet tired of standing. With a little more work, Mikey's Place will be read to greet eager children....

The foreground is underlined with a section of the seamless, blacktop path. In the middle is an older (pale, left) and newer (yellow, right) section of the wood child mattress. Under the kiddy's swings is the rubberized cushion. Each was chosen to help Mikey's Place to be as safe as possible.....

Crossing Standish Park to the northeast and northwest are concrete walks. Some of these weather stressed walks, especially in the vicinity of the playscape, were further damaged by the heavy equipment used during the earlier phases of work. A couple sections of walks had to be replaced.....

A handicapped accessible outdoor loo is conveniently located in the southeast corner of Mikey's Place to the right of the south gait. Wood fencing graciously hides the bilious facility from the visitors within the playscape. The privy will also be available to those many who use the athletic fields in adjacent portions of the Standish Park.....

Though on the thick mat of wood chips, this cantilevered "picnic" table will facilitate the seating of those who require the use of wheelchairs. Since it is not secured or anchored, it can be moved to as needed within that tree covered portion of the playscape.....

In mid-spring, the pillars for the still incomplete south gate of Mikey's place have been build, awaiting the "Mikey's Place" arch and the commemorative plaques. The half-height, black painted chain link fencing will complete the perimeter of Mikey's Place on the south and east borders. The small, off-street parking lot has still not received its concrete chocks or lines as yet.....
