November 3, 2002 Thank you from the Family of Michael James Daversa and Mikey’s Place: On Sunday, October 20, 2002 the 4th annual Mikey’s Place 5K Walk/Run was held at Mikey’s Place in Old Wethersfield. Proceeds from this race and all future 5K’s will benefit the Mikey’s Place Preservation Fund assuring its beautiful condition for years to come. Mikey’s Place continues to enrich the lives of so many children! A portion of our proceeds will also be put towards the research of Spinal Muscular Atrophy with the hope that some day a cure may be found for this devastating disease. Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank those devoted volunteers who continue to give their time and energy to the ensure the success of this wonderful and enjoyable community event: our family and friends, Wethersfield Jr. Woman’s Club, The Birthday Club, Hanmer School’s 3rd Grade Girl Scout Troop, First Church of Christ for the use of "Noah", Prudential Ct. Realty, The Wethersfield Police Department, Police Explorers, Volunteer Fire Department, Volunteer Ambulance, and the Recreation and Parks Department. Thank you to all who helped with the registration as well as those who volunteered to be road marshals and to the "huggers" at the finish line! Great job everyone! We also want to thank all of the businesses that donated their goods: Mr. Trophy, Bagelz of Wethersfield & Glastonbury, Bob’s Fruit & Produce, Fowler & Hunting, In-Tents, Entenmann’s, Hometown Buffet, The Run In, Scaglia’s Orchards in Glastonbury, Biz Wiz, Triple Stitch Sportswear, and Crystal Rock Water. The race was a huge success and, with everyone’s help and generosity, about 350 participants and scores of onlookers cheered and enjoyed a day of unity and fun while raising $8,000! Congratulations to all of our trophy winners! In particular we would especially like to thank our friends and race coordinators, George and Barbara Bellas, who continue to play a major role in the race’s overall success each year. John Thibeault always does a great job assisting us at the start/finish line. And, of course, our terrific announcer, Uncle Paul Huffman! This year, a special addition was made to the beginning of our race. Our neighbor and longtime friend, Andrew Russo, sang a beautiful solo of our National Anthem and we thank Andrew for his gift of song. It was a heartwarming way to start off the race!
We were, again, blessed with a beautiful sun shining day and it certainly appeared that everyone was enjoying themselves! Our road race continues to be a nice way to spend a morning with friends and families. Again, please accept our thanks for all you have done for our family and Mikey’s Place. May this holiday season bring you and your families much peace, health, and happiness. Dan, Mary & Danielle Daversa Mikey’s Family |
