A New Section:

 

An Events Calendar and Community Kiosk   Wethersfield, CT -- 2002.02.28 There is an adage: be careful what you ask for.      Wethersfield.net has embarked on a new commitment to the town that we all love.      On Wednesday evening, February 27, 2002, we went "live" with our new public information section. This included a fortnight calendar (encompassing at least a 14 days) of date-specific events happening just in Wethersfield. Additionally, we include a community "kiosk" or news stand where a variety of helpful information can be found.      This section will work as our community comes to rely upon it as means of checking on upcoming events and less time-dependent information. It will work as non-profit public groups and organizations send Wethersfield.net their news releases, their PSA's, their bulletins and their requests for publicity.      Our calendar and kiosk will have advantages that our medium, the Internet, has that other media lack. You will not have to search for the information in some misplaced section of the newspaper, dog-eared or not. You will not have to wait as TV telescroller displays its messages. Neither will you feel rushed to read quickly as a TV scroller whisks away information too quickly. You will not have to refer to your copy of the Town's calendar (missing it, are you?) to find what's going on at Town Hall and when. Instead, you will be able to log-on to www.wethersfield.net and check the calendar and the kiosk when you feel like it. Then you will be able to read and re-read it as quickly, slowly or as often as you like.      Though we expect a period of learning and adjustment, we expect this project to grow and evolve into a more refined form. We expect to modify our approach as needed. We will do our best to keep to our goal of becoming "an epicenter of cyber-life" in Wethersfield, Connecticut. As a greater percentage of our population becomes cyber-comfortable and Internet-enabled, we want to be there growing too.      So, we ask you, good folks of Wethersfield, to REMEMBER. When you send an event announcement to Wethersfield LIFE, Wethersfield POST, the Hartford COURANT, or the New Britain HERALD, remember to send it to us too. When you send your PSA or release to Wethersfield Community TV (Cox Cable Channel-14), remember to send it to us too. When you want to let the community know more about your organization's activities, remember to let us know too. Please read about the details of how to submit a PSA to us. And, support them and support us too.      So, coming full circle, we are asking for your support and participation in this new adventure for Wethersfield.net.
